A Wolf T-shirt is a beautiful thing. The Mountain makes exceptional truck-stop style T-shirts that we have loved for years. We love the dark tie-dye/camouflage t-shirt working together with the white highlights in the drawings. So dramatic! It pops!
We came across of series of animals "breaking through" the fronts of t-shirts. It made us fantasize about a Chanel tweed jacket, with the back cut to shreds and a Lesage embroidered wolf jumping out of us. Please, please Monsieur Lagerfeld, make this happen!
Buffy Sainte-Marie is a musician, songwriter, artist, and activist whose career began in the early 60s. She was born on a Cree Reservation in Saskatchewan, Canada and grew up in the United States. By 24, she had already earned a Ph.D. in Fine Arts, and traveled the world performing her music. Her song 'Universal Soldier' is an anthem for the peace movement, and many other musicians have recorded her music including Elvis, Cher, Donovan, Janis Joplin, Neil Diamond, and Roberta Flack.
In the late 70s, Buffy starred on Sesame Street for 5 years which is pretty cool. In the 80s, there was a U.S. government conspiracy to blacklist her because of her opinions on peace and Native American rights. To this day, she still is one of the biggest celebrities lending a voice for Native American rights.
Buffy is also a pioneer when it comes to digital art. She started using Macintosh computers in the early 80s to record music and create visual art.
Buffy Sainte-Marie played guitar and the mouth-bow. Here she is on the Pete Seeger's show Rainbow Quest with Pete Seeger in 1965 demonstrating the mouth-bow:
And singing with Johnny Cash on The Johnny Cash Show in 1969:
And just to reiterate how cool Sesame Street was in the 70s:
It's the perfect time for Julien Macdonald to make a comeback. So many trends in his favour... rock chic, shoulders, miniskirts, and an old specialty: spiderwebby knits. He took a few different attacks on glitter for Fall 09 and we loved them all! The subtle crystals spilling off dresses onto invisible tulle were dreamy and the hardcore finale dress was a masterpiece of embroidery. Glamour and Glitter!!!
Bea Arthur passed away this weekend. She was a super lady. Star of our all-time favourite sit-com The Golden Girls, she helped change perceptions of women. The Golden Girls showed with respect and humour what mature women were all about. The show was hilarious and sassy. Here are some best of moments with Dorothy, Bea Arthur's character. Note the clothes as well. They all had hyper-defined looks. Dorothy was all about big shoulder pads, cowl collars, 20s style straight silhouettes, and she wasn't shy about glitter embellishments! Thank you for being a friend...
