Thomas Engel Hart "is the kind of designer who likes to spend time creating high-end tailoring for a small and stylish clientele" says Jefferson Hack. Thomas launched his menswear collection in 2001 and was awarded the ANDAM prize in 2002. He put his own collection on hold to be the artistic director of Thierry Mugler Homme from 2005-2008. Now, Thomas is back with his signature style of strong tailoring, 70s rock references (be it glam or punk) and awesome one-of-a-kind leather pieces. After only two seasons, Thomas has reinstated himself as one of the most exciting menswear designers coming out of Paris.
Breakfast? In front of various 'dread and doom' political websites, with a coffee- just getting charged up with good energy for the day.
Lunch? When I can I love to go eat some fresh on the Rue St Anne, or eat at any 'Auvergnat' bistro in Paris that features Assiettes de Charcuterie and bottles of wine. Good example: the Bistro des Halles- it s outrageous.
Dinner? That's a good question- these days its often with friends either at my house or theirs. There's 2 reasons for this- the financial crisis and all the restaurants in Paris are BOOOOORING!
Drinks? Any corner bar will do... just kidding- that s a line from '', uttered by the unforgettable as she emasculates yet another of her co-stars! It's before she falls for the blind guy and gets a clue. Anyways- drinks? Anywhere with an outdated decor and some loony fagots is always fine with me- so I am glad the Cesar exists.
What do you do for fun? I try to laugh as much as possible, so that means basically I either drink with me buddies, go see a wacky movie at the Cinematheque, engage in some silly physical activity in the park. I used to sit around the house and paint my face and put on large shoulder pads but I m too old for that now.
What inspires you? Really anything- it's less and less the obvious things. Often times I just see half of something and it ll get me head reeling... or I dream about something. Then I also love to build on ideas- that's when you get some wacky stuff coming out- the layer cake of concepts, and trial and error, is some very fertile ground.
