Sniper Chic

As a follow-up to our previous post about fashion inspiration relating to the Apocalypse, we bring you recent images of Iranian Sniper Soldiers at their Army Day Parade.

Hyena Men Chic

We were really hoping those Somalian Pirates had some fierce fashion sense but they're really not that inspiring...

So instead, we'll talk about the Nigerian 'Hyena Men'.  The Hyena Men are a group of gypsys that travel around Nigeria with tamed hyenas, baboons and snakes with the purpose of entertaining street crowds.  It's a tradition that these people have been passed down through generations.  Photographer Pieter Hugo took extrordinary portraits of them and released the book The Hyena & Other Men published by Prestel in 2007.  The photographs are disturbing as they deal with violence, poverty and wild animals in a very muted, quiet kind of way.  Everything from the colour palette of their surroundings, to their sandals, to the hyenas' spots is very fashion inspiring.

Polygamist Chic

... Chic is a segment where we find high fashion inspiration in the news.   The FLDS polygamists are kinda old news but they were all on Oprah yesterday, so I am excited about them again.  Plus, Big Love is one of my favourite shows and the season finale was last week.

There are so many things about the style of these ladies that gets me.  The pastel colours, the puff sleeves, the ankle length dresses with white socks, but most of all it's the hair.   

Unfortunately, I can't embed this clip from Oprah where the ladies talk about their hairstyles.  One even gives a demonstration of how she creates it!  Please check it out on youtube.
